Toys & Children’s Products

Product Law Group helps clients navigate the complex web of laws regulating toys, children’s products (including clothing, furniture, accessories, electronics, and sporting equipment), durable infant and toddler products, juvenile products, and child-care articles.

Federal Children’s Product Laws. PLG provides strategic advice and enforcement defense related to federal requirements under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) including mandatory safety standards, children’s product tracking labels, children’s product certificates, and toy import requirements. PLG also provides legal advice regarding;

  • The federal Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials Act (LHAMA);
  • Flammable Fabrics Act provisions applicable to the flammability of children’s pajamas, costumes, and items made of vinyl film; and,
  • Other federal laws designed to protect children, including the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA), the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), and requirements around child-resistant nicotine packaging under the Child Nicotine Poison Prevention Act.

State Children’s Product Laws. Product Law Group provides legal support related to requirements under various state children’s safe products laws including those restricting lead, cadmium, phthalates, PFAS, flame retardants such as TCEP and TDCPP, and other chemicals. PLG also advises companies on laws that require reporting or disclosure of chemicals of concern in toys, children’s products, children’s jewelry, and juvenile products.
