Product Law Group helps product manufacturers, importers, and retailers ensure compliance with laws applicable to products made of wood, composite wood, and other plant-derived materials. Services include:
Product Advice and Enforcement Defense. PLG helps companies navigate federal and California limits on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products under the EPA’s Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Title VI regulations and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measures Phase II standards. PLG also has extensive experience with the U.S. Lacey Act, a federal law prohibiting commerce in illegally sourced wood, plants, and products made thereof.
Import Compliance. PLG provides advice and advocacy related to import requirements such as the TSCA Title VI import certification requirements for composite wood products and the U.S. Lacey Act declaration requirements for certain wood and plant-derived products (e.g., products made from wood, wicker, bamboo, rattan, cork, and other materials).
Company Policies & Risk Assessments. PLG Principal, Laura Duncan, has significant experience developing company compliance programs related to wood products. Previous work includes the development of a full Lacey Act compliance program for a Fortune 50 retailer, including the development of company policies, supplier training and agreements, internal risk assessments, internal buyer training, and supplier audits. PLG also crafts wood products compliance programs for clients to address compliance with the TSCA and CARB formaldehyde emission standards for composite wood products.
